ABOUT Lorne K. Rosenfield

CIRRICULUM VITAE

Our practice’s solid foundation transcends the trendy and is instead based upon the traditional: a 35+ year slow but sure journey gradually honing and perfecting the craft that is aesthetic surgery – a surgical skill that must be nurtured to “better” over many, many years.

There is simply no shortcut: no amount of social media posts, likes, or followers will ever, as I like to say, “fool Mother Nature” and truly speed up one’s growth of reputation. So, over the years, rather than spending my precious time curating my personal image on my social media pages to capture ever more attention, I’ve actually been “practicing” my innovative surgeries in my operating room to hone ever more skill. And what do the results of these efforts look like: the earnest delivery of the most transparent and useful information, ensuring the safest, and most effective surgery and finally, promoting the swiftest and most comfortable recovery.

These attributes are not just part of a slick slogan or catchy meme but rather represent integral characteristics developed very deliberately, very painstakingly, over many years.

How exactly do we reliably achieve these goals: by my routine reviewing and tweaking of all techniques through diligent pre and postoperative photography and intraoperative videography; by my elucidating and teaching of the many ongoing advances and innovations within journals and texts, at national and international meetings and through my engagement and teaching at three academic institutions.

But please, don’t just take my word for it: I encourage you to browse our website and ultimately of course to come visit our office – and see for yourself!

Thanks,

Lorne King Rosenfield MD

I realize that you have a great many choices for your prospective aesthetic surgery. And in order to be able to distinguish the true differences between offices, one must effectively compare “apples to apples”. To make this task as easy and honest as possible for my prospective patients, I have enumerated below the essential attributes of any aesthetic surgery office and how exactly our office compares.

COMPARING “APPLES TO APPLES”

ATTRIBUTES THAT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

SAFETY IMBUED:

"SAFETYOMICS"

I have made it my career’s ambition to honour my Hippocratic Oath to “first do no harm”. But sadly, far too many surgeons, in their quest for eye-catching practices for a mass appeal, have kind of forgotten this oath.
In fact, the word “safe” has become, what I like to described, a four-letter word – one that my colleagues complain to me, won’t “sell”! Well, despite those sentiments, I have instead been passionately engaged in the art and science of surgical safety.
Two examples of these efforts include my position as the Chair of our Society’s Patient Safety Committee for many years, where I established an enduring platform upon which issues of patient safety are now regularly addressed, and as the author of the first comprehensive surgical safety operative checklist, which is now the National standard within our specialty and even within the European Union.
Ultimately, the best example is how you, the patient, are treated in my office: I may strive for the very best aesthetic results… but never at the expense of patient safety. This philosophy has evolved into what I call “aesthetically safe” surgery – surgery that aims to deliver as not only an effective, natural result but one that is swiftly healing and of low risk.

RESULTS

DRIVEN

PATIENT CENTERED

When I hear of offices now becoming “concierge” practices, it makes me smile: I have been practicing concierge medicine since the day I started my aesthetic practice – over 35 years ago! I have spent all those decades building a culture of caring and high-touch service in my office.
So when you visit our office, as they say, “proof will be in the pudding”: From the moment you call our office, to your consultation and possible surgery, through to your recovery, you will be safely and mindfully treated, as I am known to say, like a “Faberge” egg.
There really is no other strategy if a surgeon is to ensure best results for an surgery is like a marathon and you don’t just decide to run a marathon the upcoming weekend -you plan, you prepare, you train. Undergoing surgery is not different!
So allow me to take you on a virtual journey of care in my office:
– At your consultation you will be properly informed, leaving with more than you ever thought possible about the procedure in question. You will be presented with a retinue of literally hundreds of pre and postoperative result examples, both early and late outcomes.

You will be given a refreshingly transparent, what i like to call a “truly” informed surgical consent: all your concerns relative to the considered surgery will be discussed but not generically – rather it will be tailored to you and your specific surgery as conducted in my office utilizing my techniques, rather than being bombarded by the traditional litany of every possible problem that could happen to any patient by any surgeon in any operating room.
– Before your surgery you will have been prepped like a “lunar launch” – both educationally as well as medically to ensure the safest and most stress – free recovery
– During your surgery you will be treated in an accredited facility with the highest standards – far higher than required, using my renowned surgical checklist that promotes the best results with the greatest safety.
– After your surgery you will be cared for by highly trained nurses who will be by your bedside to ensure that your postanesthesia course runs maximally smoothly, your surgery heals maximally safely and your recovery progresses maximally swiftly.
– After your recovery you will remain an essential part of our practice, returning early on to confirm continued progress and later on to document your long-term outcome.

PEER

RECOGNIZED

The ultimate test of one’s mettle as a surgeon comes with the honour of peer recognition. I have been consistently selected by my medical peers for the annual Top and Best Doctor awards. And I have been singularly recognized by my plastic surgery colleagues for both my facial and eyelid surgery in the more recent Newsweek awards.
But that said, I remain clear-eyed about the veracity of these same honours when one witnesses the sponsoring company’s intense marketing and promotion. Frankly stated, there are individuals who are not on these lists that should be and there are those on it that shouldn’t be!
This is why I value the most authentic form of peer recognition: their presenting themselves or referring their family members to my office for surgery, their invitation to have me travel as a visiting professor at their local societies or teaching institutions, and their positive feedback after adopting any of my surgical strategies toward better, safer results.

COMMUNITY

CONSCIOUS

You have heard of surgeons traveling to other countries to apply their plastic surgical skills. Well, I have had the honour, though the creation of our Peninsula Plastic Surgery Foundation, to deliver charitable reconstructive surgeries to thousands of deserving patients right in our backyard – from the entire Bay Area and beyond – ranging from the treatment of long-delayed skin cancers to never-treated congenital deformities.

SPECIALTY

FOCUSED

As much as I have for decades focused on only aesthetic surgery, I have deliberately not constrained myself – and the patient – to only one body part! I pride myself in deliberately developing expertise in both facial rejuvenation and body contouring. This strategy by offering combined surgeries, the patient can benefit one anesthesia and one recovery – and at less cost. And ultimately, by my taking the entire body into consideration aesthetically and my applying improved strategies learned from one part of the body to another, the patient can enjoy a better overall aesthetic result.

EDUCATION

DRIVEN

As much as I enjoy realizing my passion for the delivery of better patient care every day in my private operating room, I am just as spirited about the importance of educating both my practicing colleagues and training residents to be empowered to do the same! So I have for decades been an active Professor at both UCSF and Stanford University – and the sole plastic surgeon in the Bay Area to do so. And more recently, I added Duke University as my third academic appointment! In addition, I have served as a visiting professor for all major societies and still regularly lecture at all of our major plastic surgery Societies’ meetings and our specialty’s regional plastic surgery societies and teaching programs.
And most recently, as a culmination of many years honing my aesthetic education strategies, I have created a new international meeting, The INDIE Aesthetic Surgery Summit to deliver the most didactically powerful content to now hundreds of my colleagues.

INNOVATION FUELED

I have made deliberate efforts over many decades to focus and gain significant experience and prove and infuse innovative strategies in every surgery offered. Thus, I have performed thousands of these procedures over the last 35 years and learned a little something from each and every one of them to make the next one just that much better!

And the most rewarding outcome of this journey is my now well-known “pinch” surgeries. Although I was certainly pleased when one of my patient’s commented that she loved my pinch “technology” – it is not actually a technology – but rather a “philosophy”. A surgical philosophy that I call “the 3 bears of aesthetic surgery”: conducting just the right amount of surgery – not too much nor not too little. In so doing, both disappointing undertreatment and irreversible overtreatment are maximally avoided. The outcome of these same efforts can be seen in many of my “signature” – reliably effective – procedures – that never have “signature” – done looking – results!
